Sgt York Posted 4 April , 2003 Share Posted 4 April , 2003 I've just noticed I'm a 'Sgt Major' - I outrank my dear old Dad and Grandads: Mne, Sgt & Gnr respectively.

Staffsyeoman Posted 4 April , 2003 Share Posted 4 April , 2003 Well, at work I'm a Lt Col (equivalent...) this outranks grandfather (Pte, 2/South Staffs 1914-19 ); father (Lt 2/R Warwicks 1944-48) uncle (Sigmn, R Sigs 1942-46) and (gulp) partner (Sqn Ldr R Aux AF, serving!) .. but in here I'm a Sgt Maj.. which I haven't been since the ACF... And oy! Less of the Rupert.... Not all offs are such. I could nominate certain units high in 'Rupertdom'.. but loyalty/modesty forbids....

Staffsyeoman Posted 8 April , 2003 Share Posted 8 April , 2003 And now I see I've been Commissioned!! Oh gawd, that must mean that my life expectancy has just nosedived..
Martin B Posted 15 April , 2003 Share Posted 15 April , 2003 I recently browsed through this site in the company of my father. The fact that I'd been awarded two stripes was the cause of much hilarity to a man who started and finished his service as a Trooper....... Guest Hill 60 Posted 16 April , 2003 Share Posted 16 April , 2003 And now I see I've been Commissioned!! Oh gawd, that must mean that my life expectancy has just nosedived.. I'm trying for a job in Whitehall, away from the fighting! I now outrank every member of my family who served in the Armed Forces . Well, that wasn't too hard to do as most were quite happy to stay in as Privates - A/L/Cpls and ABs. We did have one relative who ended up as a Lt in the Indian Army (WWII) in the Paras but we don't talk much about that side of the family (dunno why).
