mcfc1923,

For the "commoner" badges such as the Lancers, the Hussars, the Manchesters and the MGC, I'd say between £6 and £15 each for them (well, that's what I'd pay anyway!). The RND badge - no idea on price if it's genuine.

Now, the East Lancs volunteer badge - can you get me a photo? There's been several of these at auctions recently, and some of them are just altered standard (original) badges. If this one is "right", I'd be more than happy to pay you £60+ for it ,if you can get it for such a low price, as it's one of my "needs" list (it's probably valued at about £60 to £100, depending on condition etc.).

Dave.

Dave

will get some more info off him tomorrow, price , photo etc, but something tells me that it's gonna be a standard badge.

how do they alter the standard badge to make em look like the volunteer?

cheers Dave

the RND badges are well copied and the better ones go for £5 -£10

originals for £45 -£65 ( a lot were made by gaunt and are stamped)

Manchester to Manchester VB, the commonest and poorest way is to add a plague under or on top of the city motto, not unlike the badge on ebay ( have a look at ebay item 2262390405 and wonder why it's not been snapped up)

more realistic method is to insert the plaque between the motto and MANCHESTER, stretching the Manchester around it, poor fakes will leave the 'scroll/leaves whatever under the ET, better ones remove it, but the residue can often be seen.

if you have a look at my site, check manreg 6, compare the badges on the left, the 5th VB is suspect, see the two above and the 6th below

opps just re read your post

the RND MGC were created from standard MGC badge adapted in the RND workshops, generally cheaper than the 6 RND batt badges - say around £20 ( which is what I paid for mine)

mcfc1923,

To alter it on the ELR badge, similar (but easier to do) to how Chris describes the alterations on a Manc Volunteer fake, an extra "1st Vol.Bn" scroll is added under the "East Lancashire" scroll. What a lot tend to forget to do though, is to "blank the tablet". The easiest givaway is a Vol.Bn badge that has a slider at the back. These were rare. The vast majority were lugged (wheras the commoner ELR badge had sliders in the majority of cases).

Post a picture if you can, and I'll give you my (and an ELR cap-badge specialist mate of mine's (my ELR "guru's") ) opinion on it.
