Guest swf Posted 14 August , 2004 Share Posted 14 August , 2004 I've found a document that belonged to my great-grandfather. He was awarded "die Bronzene Ehrenmedaille von Roten Kreuz mit der Kriegsdekoration" in 1916. Does anybody know where I can find a picture of it (unfortunately I couldn't find the actual medal). If you're interested I can post a picture of the document.

shawbridge Posted 14 August , 2004 Share Posted 14 August , 2004 Hi, This is a picture of the Austro-Hungarian ''Decoration for Merit to the Red Cross'' in bronze with ''Kreigsdekoration''. The ''Kreigsdekoration'' is the oak & laurel wreath surrounding the medal. The one illustrated was awarded to a lady ( hence the 'bow' shaped ribbon. If the medal was awarded to a man then it would have been worn from a triangular (or Austrian style) ribbon).
Guest swf Posted 14 August , 2004 Share Posted 14 August , 2004 Thanks for the information & picture (especially since I wasn't able to find one). I really appreciate it. To tell you the truth, I had no idea what the "Kriegsdekoration" was.
Neil Burns Posted 15 August , 2004 Share Posted 15 August , 2004 Hi, Kriegsdecoration is actually "war decoration" or for award during wartime. On this particular medal the enamel wreath denotes a war-time award. Take care, Neil
