SteveE Posted 20 June , 2012 Share Posted 20 June , 2012 Which theatre of war was 5G? I know 5 was Asia but can't find 5G. Even after 01.01.16 I can only find 5 A - E Theatre of war first served in: 5G Date of entry therein: 29.08.15 As date of entry into theatre is 29.08.1915 then the 1914-15 Star theatre codes apply which means: 5 was Asiatic Theatre including operations: (g) Near Hafiz Kor, within the area bounded on the south by the left bank of the Kabul river, and on the east by a line from Adozai to Tangi, both places included, under the command of Major-General C. F. G. Young, from 14th to 19th April, 1915, and under the command of Major-General F. Campbell, c.b., d.s.o., between 29th August, 1915 and 10th October, 1915, all dates inclusive. Ron Clifton Posted 20 June , 2012 Share Posted 20 June , 2012 6G according to LLT. Havent a clue myself .john http://www.1914-1918...ad/theatres.htm There were in fact two separate versions of the theatre codes. The first, applying to the 1914 and 1914-15 Stars, has 5 as the Asiatic theatre. A new set was introduced on 1 Jan 1916 and used for the BWM and VM, and in this set 6 is the Asiatic theatre. Easy when you know: confusing when you don't! Ron

Sandie Hayes Posted 20 June , 2012 Author Share Posted 20 June , 2012 Thanks to everyone for your input. This chap stayed in the Army after the war and was awarded the General Service Medal for service in Iraq. It seems he must have spent most of his time in that region. He was a Gunner so it's not too easy to plot his movements but your information helps a lot. Many thanks, Sandie
