Albini-Braendlin but what type?

Pals,

This is out of my area of knowledge, I know the Belgian Albini Braendlin was used in some capacity during ww1 so it does fit within the forum.

This has come up for sale on a UK firearms selling website and it its going pretty cheap (it needs some work/parts but 99% of it is there.)

Does anyone know what model it is? I have googled it but cant seem to find an exact match.

Its classed as an antique as its over 100 years old and is in an obsolete calier so I can own it without a firearms certficate.

I am pretty certain it is one of the M1867 types, the exact model will depend on which original muzzle loader it was converted from.. Belgium replaced it with the M1870 Comblain shortly afterwards. Try this site for details.

I hope that is cheap because it is a bit of a wreck. It is missing the knob from the breechblock and the striker that is linked to the hammer. That also serves to lock the breechblock in place when it is fired. More importantly it is missing at least one of the extractors (on the right hand side, I cannot see the left) and that is probably because they are fragile and it has broken.

Back in the 1960s I had one in quite good condition similar to the one shown on the above site (which cost me £4). We made a reloadable case by taking a chamber cast and turning a case on a lathe and I shot it regularly. One of the extractors broke on mine and I had to weld a small piece on and then file it to shape, but it worked.

I think I still have the case somewhere.

Thanks Tony,

I think its £240, (£4 would be even better :D ) for its age and that they don't seem to come up for sale that often, I thought that was pretty good, I didn't realise THAT many parts were missing, probably easier to win the lottery than find parts for that rifle. I'll pass.

See it always pays to have other check things when you are out of your depth :)

Cheers
