Chris_Baker Posted 24 May , 2012 Share Posted 24 May , 2012 This image is said to be of a man who died with the Royal Field Artillery in October 1917. The badge clearly is not RFA. At first glance I thought ASC but I'm not so sure the crown is right. What is it? And does the presence of collar dogs tell us anything?
Sepoy Posted 24 May , 2012 Share Posted 24 May , 2012 Its the King's Dragoon Guards - I cannot remember when it was adopted but it replaced the Austrian Eagle Badge which became slightly unpopular in 1914! I also think from the cut of the uniform this is post WW1 but I am certain others will correct me.... Sepoy
Chris_Baker Posted 24 May , 2012 Author Share Posted 24 May , 2012 Well done, Sepoy. Thanks. How about those dogs - tell us anything at all?
Sepoy Posted 24 May , 2012 Share Posted 24 May , 2012 Actually, I think they will also date the photo to post 1922 Sepoy
gordon92 Posted 24 May , 2012 Share Posted 24 May , 2012 Actually, I think they will also date the photo to post 1922 Sepoy Collar dogs were infrequently seen on SD until after the Great War. At that time, with full dress in "abeyance," SD became the soldier's primary uniform, and collar dogs were usually worn in most regiments in both SD and KD. So. pst 1922 sounds right. squirrel Posted 24 May , 2012 Share Posted 24 May , 2012 Lanyard worn on the right seems to confirm post 1922 also.

4thGordons Posted 24 May , 2012 Share Posted 24 May , 2012 And a single collar pleat on the jacket (between collar and rifle patch) would appear to indicate 1922 Pattern Service Dress Jacket. Chris
