Guest sharonm Posted 11 August , 2004 Share Posted 11 August , 2004 From one of my other threds i have been prompted by John to ask about the MM. George Herman Wilkinson of 9th Bn., Yorkshire Regiment was awarded the Military Medal in 1916, I would appreciate it if someone could look up in the regimental history to see if anything was mentioned. Bob Coulson Posted 11 August , 2004 Share Posted 11 August , 2004 Sharon, Have looked through the battalion history for you but as is the norm mainly only officer decorations are mentioned by name. However a possibility is an action mentioned in the New Year of 1916 when the 9th battalion were in the Bois Grenier sector. South of Armentieres the battalion "Let the new year in in fine style with a raid on enemy trenches that was very succesful" In this action the battalion recieved 3 MC's and 6 DCM's there is a possibility that this was the action when Sgt Wilkinson recieved his MM but don't take that as gospel.
