Just pulled this out of my great grandfathers box of bits

Is it a division badge if so which he was with the Border Regiment.

I believe this is the Lancashire Division, postwar Army of Occupation.

It's a rather trimmed down badge of the 55th (West Lancashire) Division. No permanent Border Regiment attachments I can see.

There is also a set of sgt stripes but he was never a sergeant.

Some now-forgotten Frog once famously said that every soldier had a marshals baton in his knapsack. Maybe your great grandad was a pragmatist.B)
