oscarquebec Posted 4 May , 2012 Share Posted 4 May , 2012 I'd appreciate help in identifying this gun. By the title of the picture I assume it refers to the 101 gun salute fired by 190 Brigade RFA on 28 June 1919 in Cologne near the Hohenzollern Bridge to celebrate the signing of peace. This is discussed elsewhere on GWF http://1914-1918.inv...1 The previously posted pictures appear to show 'C' and 'D' batteries but this gun is clearly heavier perhaps from another battery. Unfortunately the print on the bottom of the picture is illegible. Many thanks Mal
Old Tom Posted 4 May , 2012 Share Posted 4 May , 2012 Looks like a 6" How to my inexpert eye. That would make it a RGA piece. Old Tom
oscarquebec Posted 4 May , 2012 Author Share Posted 4 May , 2012 Thanks Old Tom According to LLT the RFA Brigades included 4.5 inch Howitzers but I would'nt recognise one from another. As a relative novice I get confused with some pieces described in inches and others in lbs. Mal
Khaki Posted 4 May , 2012 Share Posted 4 May , 2012 In general appearance it looks like the 6" 26cwt howitzer which was produced in large numbers and by the end of the war was the workhorse of artillery. khaki
oscarquebec Posted 4 May , 2012 Author Share Posted 4 May , 2012 Thanks khaki That's helpful. I found this link that seems to confirm it. http://www.landships...sh_howitzer.htm
RobertBr Posted 4 May , 2012 Share Posted 4 May , 2012 Its not a 4.5" QF Howitzer; see my avatar. 6" Howitzer dated 1918 at the Firepower Museum. The wheels date from the 1930's. Bob

wmfinch Posted 6 May , 2012 Share Posted 6 May , 2012 Hello Mal, I'm almost certain this photograph was taken in December 1919. With kind regards, Wayne
