7th Hussars

I recently discovered that my 2 x greatgrandfather was a sergeant major 7^th Hussars and in 1912 wrote for a London newspaper of his experiences during the Indian Mutiny when the regiment won 2 VCs. He died in London in 1926 and was given what was described in a local paper as a semi military honour funeral with a gun carriage from the House Guards. All three of his sons followed him into the regiment.

According to LLT the 7^th were in India from 1915 until bring transferred to Mesopotamia in 1917. I've read their role in India described as 'peace keepers' at a time of conspiracy and mutiny, no doubt a difficult time. However, despite all that was going on I wonder if the minds of the men were further west, and a desire to get 'stuck in' nearer home.
