Hi

Could possibly be the Military Medal (MM). Do you know his name, as that will help?

Also can you zoom back a little that may make it clearer.

Thanks for the replies. He's Cpl L/33330 Benjamin Fellows 175 Bde RFA, I have his MIC which just states BWM and Victory medal, no service records survive. The brigade did serve in Italy for a few months.

Have tried a different scan if it helps.

Cheers

Dave

David,

It looks like the Italian War Medal 1915-1918 which would fit in with his service in the Italian area.

I agree with Italian now it is clearer

Medaglia Dell Guerra 1915-1918 (War Medal 1915-1918) Awarded for participation to the 1st World War. This medal was instituted on 29 July 1920 and replaced a ribbon bar, introduced on 21 May 1916, which was awarded after 1 year service in a war zone. Additional war service years were indicated by a small silver star.

In 1920 this ribbon was replaced by the medal and a number of bars are attached to the ribbon according to the recipients war service. These bars are covered with laurel leaves and bear either a service year between 1915 and 1918 or the word Albania, followed by a service year between 1916 and 1920.

I will try photo

Photo too large try this site

This is not a medal meant for our troops but in saying that, this is not the first time I have seen photos showing it worn or medal groups with it included. I have not found any reference to it being awarded nor any London Gazette reference to it.
