Guest robbouk Posted 9 August , 2004 Share Posted 9 August , 2004 That is really interesting about the possibility of the medallions being a talisman from the Boer War. Only problem now is I am going to be searching back even further to see where they came from. The token on the righthand side of the photograph looks like a silhouette of Queen Victoria. Does anyone know what rank he could be as there doesnt seem to be any indication from the photograph. I would expect that after three or more years service abroad he would have moved up a little. Would he have needed much training to become a signalman?
HarryBettsMCDCM Posted 9 August , 2004 Share Posted 9 August , 2004 As no obvious Rank is shown,he would be a "Gunner" ie Private, the photo may have been taken early on in the War,or if hes one of the ernest Fletchers mentioned fromthe MiCs then maybe he just "also served" & remained a Gunner. Not everybody wanted the responsibility or was given it.
