His MIC shows he went to France 1/6/1915 (6388)

6370 enlisted 4/1/1915, 6381 enlisted 4/1/1915, 6391 enlisted 5/1/1915, 6398 enlisted 5/1/1915, so probably one of those two days?

this William Docherty was my grandfather 6388 2nd batt.irish guards -nice to know that others are remembering him also!

the lismaine connection is a dit dubious, either a mispelling of a local co longford townland or the name of an RIC barracks in the next county.

he got married in Ireland in Co Meath in 1916 as that was where his girl (also from Wishaw ) was working -My dad was born in the november of the year he died back in Wishaw. Suprisingly he joined the army in the late 1930's and served 22 years, as did his own son and in turn his son.

We have been out to Harlebeke, very moving

Its likely that he may have been in the reserve from 1st batt before joining up he was known to be older, however as I have no birth date for him he is difficult to pin down in scottish census although I am exploring a couple of possibilities

any help that you may wish to offer would be most gratefully received I understand he had a brother who also died possibily at Gallopli

best wishes and thanks from bringing him up from time to time I ask for the book of rememberance in Dublin to be opened at his page

BEST

RALPHY
