john ring Posted 20 March , 2012 Share Posted 20 March , 2012 Hello fellow members :- i stumbled upon a selection of extracts from D MORIARTY DIARY on line by the GUARDIAN . I.E about twelve in all , various dates Part of the entry for JULY 13 , QUOTE " I went out this morning and put two crosses over the graves of the men of W and Y companies who were killed on the night of 1-2 may ( 13 of Y, 19 W and 8 of the machine gun " . The diary ends here . My question is this total KILLED accurate for the RMF ON THE 1-2 MAY ? including my gr gd uncle "Patrick o'riordan 9838 1st RMF killed on the 2nd may " or if not accurate can anyone furnish me with the actual total killed in the RMF on the 2nd may ? Either way at least he had some good mates to accompany him on his final journey to meet their maker. GOD BLESS THEM ALL Looking forward to your replies , with many thanks and kindest regards , Cork Commrade

But anyway 62 Men of the RMF including Patrick listed on the CWGC site for those 2 dates in 1915, all but 2 only listed on the Helles Memorial http://www.cwgc.org/search-for-war-dead.aspx?cpage=1 9 on the 2nd, 8 of them on the Helles Memorial http://www.cwgc.org/...ad.aspx?cpage=1 Sam
IPT Posted 20 March , 2012 Share Posted 20 March , 2012 Hi there, As a guide, for 1st Bn RMF, SDGW shows up 52 casualties for 1/5/1915 and 8 casualties for 2/5/1915. On the 2nd May, 3 of the 8 men who died were from Cork. EDIT - I see Sam's found 2 more than me!
roughdiamond Posted 20 March , 2012 Share Posted 20 March , 2012 EDIT - I see Sam's found 2 more than me! IPT, 9880 Pte David Donovan http://www.cwgc.org/search-for-war-dead/casualty/75228754/DONOVAN,%20DAVID is on an "Addenda Panel" and still to be added to the Memorial so won't be on SDGW, maybe another was added after SDGW was compiled but has since been added to the Memorial panel 185 - 190. michaeldr Posted 23 March , 2012 Share Posted 23 March , 2012 Quote from post #1 Part of the entry for JULY 13 , QUOTE "I went out this morning and put two crosses over the graves of the men of W and Y companies who were killed on the night of 1-2 may ( 13 of Y, 19 W and 8 of the machine gun " . This is background information but may be of interest This was the time when the remnants of the RMF & the RDF combined to form 'The Dubsters' On 30th April 1915 (at noon) the War Dairy informs that “New organization adopted. The Battalion to consist of 2 coys Munsters & 2 coys Dublins. 'W' coy RMF, 'X' coy RMF, 'Y' '' RDF, 'Z' coy '' This peculiar arrangement lasted until 19th May 1915: see WD entry "Extract from B.O. No.9 G d. 19th May 1915. From today's date the 1st Battn. R.M.F. & 1st Battn. R.D.F. which were on 27th April 1915 amalgamated & known as the Dubster Battn. will be dealt with as separate units & resume their correct titles.” The WD can be down-loaded from the NA for a reasonable price; its ref is WO/95/4310

bgl7294 Posted 16 August , 2019 Share Posted 16 August , 2019 Tharkin56 Sir, Re your post indicating that you have a picture of Henry Sunner. He was a Freemason, member of two Lodges Lodge Moyle No 2904 E.C. and Power Palmer No 2924 E.C. I am currently involved in updating the Masonic - Great War Project records. It would be great to have his photo to add to his record. Would this be possible please. Bruce
