The badge above his right breast pocket will be the Imperial Service badge, which means that he is a member of one of the territorial battalions of the Gloucestershire Regiment. The badge indicates that he had agreed to serve on active service overseas and the photo will have been taken sometime prior to embarking overseas. That's interesting, as there could be a Northampton connection, and some Gloucestershire territorials, including composer Ivor Gurner were billeted in Northampton.
