Replica WWI period French bayonet frogs

Hi everyone,

I need three of the above for display purposes (two hookie Lebels, one hookie Berthier Mk II), but the only ones I have been able to find on line are the Schipperfabrik ones (too expensive to post to here - more than the unit cost!) and those individually made by a US of A specialist (fantastic pieces, designed and made for practical use, but too expensive and well-made for my immediate needs). Hopefully there are some re-enactors out there who can advise me of a European supplier of these? I would be grateful!

Hi Trajan

I would have thought that there would have been plenty of skilled leather workers in your part of the world who could make you what you want if you gave them the measurements and a photograph.

Thanks! You're probably right, and that's an idea worth looking into - but it would be nice to have at least one actual prototype (replica or otherwise) for a guy to work from. Also, it would give me an advantage to know what a unit cost would be for one of these in the EU!

Hi Trajan,

Try this: greatwar.com. Put 'frog' in the search bar and some real ones should come up at the top. If you've not used them before they are a good company run by honest guys.

Sounds wonderful, but Turkish Customs law forbids the import of any 'sharp implements (including camping knives)', which is why I can't even get onto e-bay... Don't ask me why they have this law - unless it is to protect the home-grown flick knife, gravity knife, and doner kebab carving knife industry, all of these being freely available in shops in town...

Thanks Simon, could be the solution!

An update. I did find and ordered two from greatwar.com that are apparently film props and I'll pass on information when these arrive.

But just as it goes, so it goes. While checking French sites for information of Lebel bayonets I found this one - http://www.site-anno...aionnette-lebel - with a nice selection or reproduction and real examples on various e-selling sites...
