Identifying Regiment

I have recently secured a photo of my grandfather in his WW1 uniform. I have no idea what regiment he served in and would appreciate any guidance in this regard. Thanks in anticipation.

Very difficult to see much detail, but he appears to have a bar on his right side above pocket, may be a Territorial On Imperial Service Bar. Enlargement of photo may help. I'm not much help, sorry.

Hello pdpsing

Welcome to GWF, Can you give your grandfather name that would be useful and maybe where he was born. this would help the forum find information, best place to start is the Long Long Trail.

Hi

It looks like he wearing a lanyard on left shoulder, could be Artillery or Army Sevice Corps.

Regards.

Thanks Tim

Is the uniform he was photographed in consistent with the Royal Field Artillery?

Interesting you are in Canberra - I am "down the road" in Batemans Bay.

Cheers

I would say so Paul,

Can you post a larger scan of the photo? Do you know anything else about William?

Small world!

Hi Tim

The site only allows a file size up to 100kb. Even after cropping I can't get near this, apart from compressing as in the earlier photo I posted. Would have to send to your e-mail account if you are happy to share that. William was a Miner prior to serving in the War. Originally from Wales, it seems he was one of the miltiant miners involved in the 1926 strike as he subsequently moved to Kent to work in a colliery in the late 1920's. Many of the miltant miners ended up doing this.

My mother recalls her Aunt saying that Bill was "something to do with horses" in the War, which fits in with the Medal Index about a William Sandry being a Driver with the 40th Brigade Royal Field Artillery.

Thanks for your help.

Paul

Happy to have a look mate. This man may be him, bit he may also have served without stating his middle name which would give more possibilities.
