Marco Posted 30 January , 2012 Share Posted 30 January , 2012 I think the picture below shows a M16 77mm fieldgun. Can anyone confirm? TIA! Regards, Marco
SiegeGunner Posted 30 January , 2012 Share Posted 30 January , 2012 Have you got a front view of it, Marco? It does look like an FK16.
Marco Posted 30 January , 2012 Author Share Posted 30 January , 2012 Hello Siege, No, I'm afraid not. I have a M16 front vieuw to compare it with but this is no option. The piece shown is located in Koblenz. It might look big but it is displayed in a low cellar. Regards, Marco
apwright Posted 30 January , 2012 Share Posted 30 January , 2012 The last two photos at http://mojosquantentunnel.blogspot.com/2011/04/museum-for-german-military-technology.html (scroll down the the bottom and click on the pics for enlargements) identify it as a 10cm Kanone 17. SiegeGunner Posted 30 January , 2012 Share Posted 30 January , 2012 Good find, Adrian. It does look very like the FK16, so I wonder whether the 10cm 1917 is a further development of the same. Is the manufacturer Krupp or Rheinmetall?
Marco Posted 30 January , 2012 Author Share Posted 30 January , 2012 Thank you very much Adrian. An other 'unknown' identified! Regards, Marco
CharlieBris Posted 30 January , 2012 Share Posted 30 January , 2012 Good find, Adrian. It does look very like the FK16, so I wonder whether the 10cm 1917 is a further development of the same. Is the manufacturer Krupp or Rheinmetall? It's a different lineage. The 10cm Kanone 17 L/45 was derived from the 10cm Model 1904 gun. The first upgrade, to an L/35 barrel, happened in 1914, the second, to an L/45 barrel, in 1917. Range went from 10.2km (K04) to 13.1km (K14) and to 14.1km (K17). All these guns were built by Krupp. About 192 K17 guns were built so it's a fairly rare gun. Regards, Charlie
