Remembered Today:

Minenwerfer at Amberley, Qld

Small minenwerfer on top of a war memorial at Amberley, Qld.

Looks to be about 75mm calibre. Any ideas on its identity?

The war memorials database says it's a German mortar but I haven't seen one like that.

Regards,

Charlie

Looks like the sMW L5 25 cm Minnenwerfer but missing part of its recoil mechanism or possibly the mMW l4.5 17cm Minnenwerfer but also missing part of the recoil

The minenwerfer is quite tiny - the baseplate is perhaps 60cm long. The Rheinmetall designed mMW and sMW were much larger pieces.

The projectile is a replica of a real one, which was stolen, is about 75mm calibre.

It looks a bit like a Magener minenwerfer but that was 15cm calibre.

Charlie

I've found more images - the final one is to give an idea of the scale of the mortar.

The mortar has two recoil cylinders, or rather the remains of these, on top of the barrel.

Charlie

100K image limit? - Looks like the forum software merged the posts - peculiar
