lionboxer Posted 18 January , 2012 Share Posted 18 January , 2012 I'm looking for trench maps "North East of Kemmel" in 1915. According to the war diary of 1st E Surrey's they took over trenches J4, 11. SP 5, 4a. K1, K1 support, K2, K111, K11e. A friends grandfather was killed there April 1915 and we are hoping to go there in the Spring/Summer. Lionboxer
CROONAERT Posted 18 January , 2012 Share Posted 18 January , 2012 S5, J4, K1 & K2 are illustrated here (very!) roughly superimposed on a later dated trench map (and modern NGI). The '11's are communication trenches not depicted on my trench sketches of the era...
CROONAERT Posted 18 January , 2012 Share Posted 18 January , 2012 March 1915 extracts - one showing another of your requested trenches (J 11) ... (though this particular one does erroneously depict S5 as S6) ...
lionboxer Posted 18 January , 2012 Author Share Posted 18 January , 2012 What a result and so quick too!! Many thanks for that Croon, I'll be able to impress my friend and take her to the very spot (well, near enough)where her grandfather was wounded before dying in 14 FA at Locre.
