Burials Officers

Hi,

I've noticed from some war diaries, reference to a Burials Officer.

Does anyone know if this was a "permanent" position for an officer, or whether this was a job that changed hands regularily - and did it constitute a specific administrative department within a division or battalion, or was it set up as and when required? Was any rank associated with the job?
