This is dated 8/9/17. The spot must be just outside the right hand perimeter of the current Tyne Cot Cemetery. Map courtesy of TNA trench map CD from N and M Press.

From text above "just North of Ypres-Roulers railway line and 1000 yards South-East of Zonnebeke"

Not South-East, East of North and about 2000 yards from Zonnebeke.....error in the text..????

Hi Tom,

this was the exact text on document Nat. Archives Australia

think it has to be Passendale instead of Zonnebeke

using Linesman and a modern 1:10,000 equivalent from Memory Map to illustrate the spot 'then and now'...

Tom... do you mean the 'Belgium DVD' from GWD? If so, I don't think it has the 1:10,000 scale NGI mapping illustrated above (the website just mentions 1:25,000 and 1:50,000 scale). The 1:10,000 Belgian NGI maps I use are direct from Memory Map (basically I just needed the 1944 Ardennes battlefields in this scale but thought 'what the hell' and got them for all the Belgian trench map coverage (and Mons, Namur, Dinant, Liege, Antwerp, Maldeghem/Gent, Leopold & Wilhelmina Canals, Dyle positions etc) too! (the Dutch mapping for Market Garden area and the 1940 battlefields in Holland is pretty good/useful too!).

I agree with you though... it does look a good addition... might get round to getting it for myself one day too!

Ok Dave ..Yes its GWD "NGI Belgium" that I've just installed, also got the "Linesman 20" package, I'll be quite honest I've had more than my monies worth with "Linesman 10". When I consider the hours I've spent poring over maps, it's been cheaper and better entertainment for me than the TV licence.

And of course when over "in the field" it is a superb tool when tramping the ground.

Tom

Gents I have checked the Belgian disc and it appars to be the same mapping. The NGI told us it was 1:25,000, so something is amiss. The Memory-Map product has come out after ours, and I cannot explain why it is refered too as 1:10,000. I will look into it.

Here is what is on our disc, which appears to be identical.

Guy...

Below is an extract from the 1;20,000 scale paper version of the same. The paper version of the 1:10,000 scale is identical to the electronic versions already depicted on here (albeit 'gridded'). The only real difference I can see being the background colour (I haven't got a 1:25,000 paper version to compare... didn't know that there was one for this particular area).
