Remembered Today:

Cap Badge identification please

Looks like an unofficial badge to me, probably of early war vintage before regimental badges were available in the kind of numbers that were required.

The button looks like the standard black one worn by members of rifle regiments - Rifle Brigade, King's Royal Rifle Corps and the like.

Definitely Durham University OTC --which fits with the buttons

I agree. I was in it in the 1980s (when it had become Northumbrian Universities OTC and we had a ghastly anodised aluminium version) and the badge has not changed. It derives from the Pectoral Cross of St Cuthbert http://www.cushnieen...thbertcross.htm found on him when is coffin was opened in 1827. The original gross goes back to circa 655 AD and is now on display at Durham Cathedral.
