Remembered Today:

is this a voluntary org. uniform?

A kind contributor in the postcard forum suggested this gentleman's uniform isn't actually military but is perhaps that of a voluntary organisation? Can anyone suggest what it might be? He could be from Birmingham, if that's any help.

(So sorry if I'm not meant to post it in two threads, but I wasn't sure if the folks who could help me would see it in the other one...!) Many thanks. :)

I don't know about voluntary organisation, but those cuff rank badges look to me to be buttons at the same time as he is wearing shoulder rank badges that look to be material as opposed to metal. Maybe it is a theatrical uniform? Sorry don't know.

Possibly Red Cross or some other civilian organisation. Apparently certain civilian organisations which operated behind the lines were uniformed details of which appear in ACI's.
