Specs for large 37-mm cartridge case

A US book published January 1917 ( http://www.archive.org/details/manufactureofart00alforich ) gives detailed specifications for manufacturing British ammunition. It contains a chapter with extremely detailed instructions for the manufacture of "1 pounder cartridge cases for the British Government". Yet the case has a length of 5.389 inches : i.e. the case is 37 x 137 mm. The 1-pounder pom-pom case was 37 x 94. The 1 1/2 pounder case was 37x123 according the Anthony Williams ( http://www.quarry.nildram.co.uk/37-40mm.htm ).

Can anybody suggest what this case wazs actually for ? Possibly the French or Russian 37-mm trench guns ? I would think that such a large cartridge would give far too much recoil for use without a proper carriage and recoil system.

Specs fit a Maxim-Nordenfeldt and Hotchkiss (and others ?) 1lb pom pom used in the USN (=> http://www.navweaps.com/Weapons/WNUS_1pounder_m1.htm). Given the ubiquity of the first two weapons manufacurers I could image that the RN at least would have had a few....

37x137 is given for the US Mk 2, a Driggs-Schroeder gun. Looks like the book has published the specs for the wrong 1-pounder i.e. for the US ammo rather than the British Maxim-Nordenfelt 37x94 ammo.
