Dido Posted 8 January , 2012 Share Posted 8 January , 2012 In 1915 the RN bought the steam tug ANDROS, ex-KNIGHT OF ST.PATRICK. She was built in 1885 by Grangemouth Dockyard as a two-funneled 274 grt tug. She was sold in 1905 to Constantinople owner Delagramatikas and renamed ANDROS and resold in 1911 to the Greek "Yannoulatos Cie a Vapeur Ionienne" . In 1912 she was confiscated by Turkey but released in 1914. in 1922 she was sold to a Constantinople-based shipowner. I am looking for any information on how and where she was employed by the RN and what was her fate after 1922.
Malcolm Posted 8 January , 2012 Share Posted 8 January , 2012 Steam Tug ANDROS 275 tons launched 1885, (ex Knight of St Patrick) requisitioned August 1915, sold August 1922 is all that is in Dittmar and Colledge British Warships 1914-1919 Aye Malcolm
Dido Posted 9 January , 2012 Author Share Posted 9 January , 2012 Thank you Malcolm. I corrected the title to ANDROS as this was the name of the ship during her service with the RN. I also found something relevant: HMS Comet had been damaged in a collision with a merchant ship on 4th August 1918 and was being towed by the tug Andros to Malta for repair when she was torpedoed by an Austrian U-boat on 6th August 1918. And a discussion in another forum : http://warsailors.com/forum/read.php?1,39540 Now her service with the RN is more clear. Her fate is still in question...
