Geoff D Taylor Posted 3 January , 2012 Share Posted 3 January , 2012 I need confirmation of the unit represented by this group. I suspect that it is Royal Garrison Artillery. If confirmed then it is likely that the picture is consistent with... tony paley Posted 3 January , 2012 Share Posted 3 January , 2012 Agree, I don't see any 'Gunners' on this photograph. Although black and white the dress jackets appear Red consist with Royal Engineers. Could be a fortress unit attached to RGA. tony P
Geoff D Taylor Posted 3 January , 2012 Author Share Posted 3 January , 2012 Wow! Instant replies... From what you have said, it may be that this is the WC Cable laying unit, Royal Engineers. The man above the X would be my Grand Uncle Francis Taylor, Service number = 78670 The cap badges seem possible (given the poor resolution), but I am not familiar with dress unifor seen in this photo. I have only seen pictures of him with bandoleers consistent with his mounted duties with the cable laying unit. Regards, Geoff
tony paley Posted 3 January , 2012 Share Posted 3 January , 2012 Geoff, There you go. I think you can safely say the men on the photograph are Sappers not Gunners. If you are aware of the rivalry between those units you were treading on dodgy ground. Tony P
