melliget Posted 2 January , 2012 Share Posted 2 January , 2012 I came across this in The Times, 7 Sep 1915 (death notice) and 9 Sep 1915. Arthur Guy WORTHINGTON, 18 years old, gentleman Cadet, Indian Army, died during bathing parade at Quetta. Son of Arthur and Janet Worthington of Woodstock House, Singleton, Sussex. Unsure whether he is eligible for commemoration, hence the post. regards, Martin
tipperary Posted 2 January , 2012 Share Posted 2 January , 2012 Hi Martin i wonder was his status that of a civilian he is refered to as Mr rather than a rank.john
melliget Posted 2 January , 2012 Author Share Posted 2 January , 2012 Hi John. Thanks for your reply. Yes, I noticed that too. Perhaps it's a grey area. Was he considered to have been "in" the Indian Army, albeit as a cadet? I notice he was buried with military honours. Anyway, thought I'd ask the question rather than let a possible non-comm go unnoticed. regards, Martin
Sandie Hayes Posted 2 January , 2012 Share Posted 2 January , 2012 He isn't detailed in SDGW or CWGC but he is commemorated on the Singleton War Memorial / Roll of Honour at Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Singleton, Sussex. WORTHINGTON Arthur Guy, Officer Indian Army, Died 1915. He is also listed in De Ruvigny's Roll of Honour, the entry says little The Times hasn't already said but there is a photograph of him. Terry Denham Posted 2 January , 2012 Share Posted 2 January , 2012 WORTHINGTON's case is already in hand. He was submitted by IFCP some time ago and the outcome is awaited. Shouldn't be long now!
