Info on AFC Pilot Needed

I would appreciate any additional information on service record of Norman Entwistle Marshall with the AFC. I know that he was a second lieutenant and that he got his ticket on October 2, 1917 (No. 7578). I know nothing of his service after that point. Thanks for any help.

His service record is available at the National Archives of Australia in file B2455. It looks like he served with AFC Headquarters, then the Central Despatch Pool before joining No 2 Sqn AFC on 5 October 1918. The SE5 File shows that on 26 October he was flying SE5a F5465 when he struck a ditch while landing in thick fog.

Cheers

Thanks for the information. It is much appreciated. Do the files indicate whether Marshall sustained any injuries in the crash?

Happy new year!

Bob,

If you go to http://recordsearch.naa.gov.au/SearchNRetrieve/Interface/SearchScreens/BasicSearch.aspx

and make a search on Norman Entwistle Marshall you will find that you are able to view his WWI file documents online.

This will also bring up a file for his WWII service, though that has not yet been digitised for online viewing. You can, however, request that this be done for a fee of about AU$16.00.
