hen190782 Posted 27 December , 2011 Share Posted 27 December , 2011 Good Afternoon This man is recorded as a fatality on the Roll of Honour for Great Victoria Street Presbyterian Church, Belfast However, I cannot find an entry on CWGC, SDGW or IMR The RoH gives his address as 32 Madrid Street, Belfast and the only Frederick William Moore on the 1911 Ireland Census was an English-born Cabinet Maker (26) living at 70 Westbourne Street. Can anyone confirm this man as a fatality or provide any information on him. Thanks Nigel
KevinBattle Posted 28 December , 2011 Share Posted 28 December , 2011 Is he definitely shown with those Christian Names? Ireland , Casualties of the Great War shows there is a Frank Wright Moore, Reg No. 2264. Rank: Lance Corporal, City of London Reg't attached Royal Fusiliers. Died of Wounds Sept 15th 1916. CWGC:- Name: MOORE, FRANK WRIGHT. Rank: Lance Corporal Regiment/Service: London Regiment (Royal Fusiliers). Unit Text: 2nd Bn. Age: 34. Date of Death: 15/09/1916. Service No: 2264 Additional information: Son of William Moore, of Cottonmount, Co. Antrim. Grave/Memorial Reference: I. C. 8. Cemetery: GROVE TOWN CEMETERY, MEAULTE SDGW:- Name: Francis Wright Moore. Residence: Belfast. Death Date: 15 Sep 1916 Death Location: France & Flanders. Enlistment Location: London Rank: L/Corporal. Regiment: London Regiment. Battalion: 2nd (City of London) Battalion (Royal Fusiliers). Number: 2264 Type of Casualty: Died of Wounds. Theatre of War: Western European Theatre. Now whether he's your man, I can't tell, but I wouldn't have thought there would be too many Belfast men in the Royal Fusiliers (Irish, Inniskilling, yes, but London? However the Church ought to have known his correct names, just a hope that someone "guessed" the most likely Christian Names from initials...... I can only find two Belfast births both for William Frederick Moore, not the other way round as you have. Don't think I can find any better candidate...... Hope it's of some help, even if it's just to rule him out......
hen190782 Posted 28 December , 2011 Author Share Posted 28 December , 2011 Kevin Thanks, I had spotted Francis Wright Moore but the Church RoH records "Frdk Wm" (or similar contraction) ... I suppose this could be the correct man. I had wondered whether the English-born Federick William Moore (Westbourne Street) may have returned to England to join up. BTW, there are 30 men on my Belfast Presbyterians list who are recorded as serving with Royal Fusiliers! Nigel
