Guest Vicky319 Posted 18 December , 2011 Share Posted 18 December , 2011 Hello My Grandfather was a member of No 4 939 MT Coy of the Army Service Corps. I have tried to look this up and have found no reference to it. He was transfered to this section on 22 Jul 1918 late in the war - I think he was a protected trade as he enlisted in 1916 but wasn't passed as a driver and deployed until 1918. In July 1918 he was then posted to 3 MT VRP again I have not been able to find out anything about this unit I am presuming it is a reserve unit post demob. Anyway I hope someone can help and maybe shed a little light on this matter Vicky J
jay dubaya Posted 18 December , 2011 Share Posted 18 December , 2011 Welcome to the forum Vicky, 939 Coy was formed on 22nd August 1917 and were employed on the Western Front as part of the 4th Army. The units role was the 75th Auxillary (Petrol) Company, a warf diary for this unit can be found at the National Archives in WO95/513. If you could let us know your Grandfather's name we may be able to assist further, cheers, Jon
Guest Vicky319 Posted 19 December , 2011 Share Posted 19 December , 2011 Hi Jon Thankyou for your reply His number was M/40113 Pte James Herbert Ford. You mentioned 75th Petrol Coy, there is a mention of a petrol company in his documents but they are very faded - I think a trip to Kew is in order at some stage to see the originals.
