18 PR Cartridge case

Hi All

I am new here but believe I've come to the right place!

I have trawled through the forum and identified most of the markings on an 18 pounder cartridge case belonging to my husbands grandfather. Please would you confirm my thoughts and help with the gaps?

On casing:

18PR II - 18 pounder mark2

28 4 17 - 8 April 1917

CF - cordite full charge

S - Schleroscoping mark

M.D.Co - manufacturer, Metal Drawing Co., St. Catharine's, Ontario

H U A - ?

L in a circle - the mouth of the case was annealed

Broad arrow in a C - Canadian war office mark

1917 - again, the date

Funny little mark, like a reversed "P" - ?

On the primer:

(the marks are spaced opposite each other, one in each quarter)

17 - the date (1917)

N.A. - National Arms & Ammunition Co., Birmingham, UK

II - ?

Another broad arrow in a C but much smaller and slightly different (the point and legs of the arrow touch the C, unlike the one on the case) - ? Canadian? this confused me as I thought the primer was UK-made!

Thank you so much for your assistance!

Nicky
