Bardess Posted 17 December , 2011 Share Posted 17 December , 2011 Terry, Edward doesn't seem to be on the GRO list so may not be in the pipeline
Terence Munson Posted 17 December , 2011 Author Share Posted 17 December , 2011 Thanks again Diane. I found this one while looking for casualties associated with requisitioned Grimsby trawlers. It does look as if errors occured when entries were being copied to the Admiralty Ratings Death Ledgers as there are two entries for Wednesday 21 October 1914 where the casualties have the same O.N. (DA 152) as follows: MARSHALL, Edward H, Deck Hand, RNR, DA 152 Agamemnon, (former Grimsby trawler), minesweeper (Admiralty No. 19) (This could be his death certificate: Name: MARSHALL, Edward H. Registration District: Alverstoke County: Hampshire. Year of Registration: 1914 Quarter of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec. Age at death: 43 Volume No: 2B Page No: 705) and MATTHEWS, John W, Deck Hand, RNR, 152 DA Greta II, (former Fleetwood trawler), minesweeper (Admiralty No. 119 - Greta /became Greta II in May 1915) - He is commemorated (casualty=2852094) Terry
Bardess Posted 17 December , 2011 Share Posted 17 December , 2011 You may have found one! I don't think the GRO lists covered 'home' deaths. Good luck with it
chrisharley9 Posted 25 January , 2012 Share Posted 25 January , 2012 Terry This one would be dependent on the service record & DC; I will see what I can do to help Chris
Terence Munson Posted 25 January , 2012 Author Share Posted 25 January , 2012 Chris, I've done some work on this one and I'm satisfied the details in this record are wrong. The writer was probably distracted or interrupted and strayed to the record of MATTHEWS and copied some of his details! I believe this is the same Marshall: Naval Casualties 1914-1919 - soldier details Name: Edward Henry MARSHALL (CWGC casualty=3055957) Rating: Cr. Sgt. Birth date/place: 4.11.71. Walthamstow, E.17.
