michaeldr Posted 26 July , 2004 Share Posted 26 July , 2004 26th July 1914 On this day Orders for demobilisation of Fleets cancelled by Admiral Prince Louis of Battenberg. The First Lord of the Admiralty, the Prime Minister and most of the cabinet were away for the weekend and so it fell to the First Sea Lord to decide whether or not demobilise the men who had been called up for the test mobilisation which was to finish the next day. Admiral Prince Louis of Battenberg, seeing that the international situation was worsening and on the basis of information coming in to him, decided not to demobilise and telegraphed orders to the Fleet to stand fast.
