206thCEF Posted 24 November , 2011 Posted 24 November , 2011 Good day gentlemen. I'm asking your help about two British medals recipients because on this side of the pond informations is next to impossible to find. The first information needed is for a trio (M.C.and BWM & V M) to a Lt.W.H. Davies, 14th Bn DLI, his BWM and Victory are named to Captain W. H. Davies without any unit named. The second information needed is for a M.M. to #14154 Pte.D. Thomson, 11th Bn Royal Scots. I just need basic informations as to when and for what action were they given. All help will be appreciated. Thanks Jo

IPT Posted 24 November , 2011 Posted 24 November , 2011 I think he may be William Herbert Davies. No MC mentioned on his MIC, but LG 1/2/1918 here; http://www.london-gazette.co.uk/issues/30507/supplements/1603
IPT Posted 24 November , 2011 Posted 24 November , 2011 2nd Lt. (T./Lt.) William Herbert Davies, Durh. L.I. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. After a very heavy bombardment his company was attacked and forced back from its trench. Though he had been buried three times by shells, he led a counter-attack with the greatest skill and determination, and recaptured the position. http://www.edinburgh-gazette.co.uk/issues/13285/pages/2374/page.pdf
Jarvis Posted 24 November , 2011 Posted 24 November , 2011 Hello, Pte D Thomson - MM award mentioned in the London Gazette (#29701 - page 7890) ... http://www.london-gazette.co.uk/issues/29701/supplements/7890 on 16 August 1916. Also found in the Edinburgh Gazette (#12971 page 1412) ... http://www.edinburgh-gazette.co.uk/issues/12971/pages/1412/page.pdf on 15 August 1916. No details in either publication other than : War Office, August 10, 1916. His Majesty the KING has been graciously pleased to award the Military Medal for bravery in the field to the undermentioned Non-commissioned Officers and Men :— 14154 Pte. D. Thomson, R. Scots. So all this tells us is he won the MM before this date. I'll try to get a fix on how and when, however, there are some experts on the Forum who may be more expedient. Regards, Jarvis
IPT Posted 24 November , 2011 Posted 24 November , 2011 Daniel Thomson went to France 11/5/1915. He enlisted 4/9/1914 and was discharged with wounds 25/10/1918. SWB no B57916.
