Colin I agree with all of the foregoing and as wardog implied the soldier was almost certainly in one of the war-raised 'Service Battalions' raised via Lord Kitchener's famous initiative. Thats a very clear picture and looking at the copy I have I am sure you are correct. Thanks very much at least I have made some progress today.
