Could anyone please identify this badge as I am trying to decide which of the various John Edward Francis are in the Medal Roll

I agree with all of the foregoing and as wardog implied the soldier was almost certainly in one of the war-raised 'Service Battalions' raised via Lord Kitchener's famous initiative.

Thanks F I have searched and searched for anyone with the name John Edward Francis in the Lincolnshire Reg but without success but I an still ploughing through them. Thats a very clear picture and looking at the copy I have I am sure you are correct. Thanks very much at least I have made some progress today. Colin
