SouthernGent Posted 16 November , 2011 Posted 16 November , 2011 Hi! Can anyone help identify this uniform - the man was in the Irish Guards, Connaught Rangers,Labour Corp and Royal Fusiliers. He appears to have Sergeant stripes??? Sorry for poor quality - it is a scan of a photocopy of the original. Thanks!
FROGSMILE Posted 16 November , 2011 Posted 16 November , 2011 Hi! Can anyone help identify this uniform - the man was in the Irish Guards, Connaught Rangers,Labour Corp and Royal Fusiliers. He appears to have Sergeant stripes??? Sorry for poor quality - it is a scan of a photocopy of the original. Thanks! Unfortunately there is much distortion across the area of the cap badge, but it is clear from the shape of the badge seen that it is neither Irish Guards nor Connaught Rangers. He appears to be at the latter stage of his career as he is relatively elderly in the photo. This and the shape of the badge would fit with the Labour Corps and Royal Fusiliers. His rank looks to be Colour Sergeant rather than Sergeant as I believe there is a small crown above his three stripes. If you can focus in on his cap and post a larger image it should be possible to make a positive ID of his unit, but as things stand the Labour Corps is the closest fit.
SouthernGent Posted 16 November , 2011 Author Posted 16 November , 2011 Hi,do you have this lads name ? Gary. Hi Gary - Peter Kavanagh. I have his service records but just do not know which uniform this is.
dundeesown Posted 16 November , 2011 Posted 16 November , 2011 I can see his medal card but no Irish Guards on it,was this after the war ? Gary.
SouthernGent Posted 16 November , 2011 Author Posted 16 November , 2011 Hi, Yes I assume it might be. He would have been 35-36 after WW1 and he looks older here (though I could be wrong on that)
SouthernGent Posted 16 November , 2011 Author Posted 16 November , 2011 Hi Gary, To clarify - he changed to the Connaught Rangers in 1914 so the Irish Guard service was before that. Thanks!
dundeesown Posted 16 November , 2011 Posted 16 November , 2011 Thanks for that,so we can say that it`s not the Guards then. all the best Gary.
FROGSMILE Posted 17 November , 2011 Posted 17 November , 2011 The Labour Corps badge looks closest to the shape of the badge in the photo.
