vetje Posted 14 November , 2011 Share Posted 14 November , 2011 Hey, I came in the possession of an antique spoon with the number 2SG 7369. Second Scots Guards, but I'm not in the knowledge to do further research. Is it possible to tell me, who this spoon belonged to. Best regards Alexander
Cameron2165 Posted 14 November , 2011 Share Posted 14 November , 2011 Hi Alexander, There is a Medal Index Card on Ancestry for a George Bevan 2nd Royal Scots, (Dragoon Guards I think) Service No 7369 could this be him? I think Ancestry is still free so the link is here http://search.ancest...rc=&pid=2234779 Regards Cam
high wood Posted 14 November , 2011 Share Posted 14 November , 2011 Your spoon seems to be Great War vintage as there are medal index cards for the following Scots Guards: 7366 Edward Griffiths 7267 Joseph Thackeray 7368 Alexander Dingwall 7369 7370 Adam Mcall, later 884 Guards Machine Gun Regiment So your man's card seems to be missing either because he didn't serve overseas with that number or the mic is lost. It might be worthwhile checking the medal roll for any of the men that I have listed, you may be lucky and find that he is there. Alternatively, you can contact the Guard's museum in Birdcage Walk, London as they will have a record. There is a small fee to pay.
IPT Posted 14 November , 2011 Share Posted 14 November , 2011 If it's any help, the above 7368 Alexander Dingwall joined the 2nd in February 1909. He was recalled at outbreak of war. It could be that the spoon is pre-war, and the man was not recalled or sent abroad? EDIT: 7370 McCall went abroad 13/8/1914 so another pre-war regular.
