Guest cbell8092 Posted 26 March , 2003 Share Posted 26 March , 2003 My Great Uncle John Madden served with the 1st East Surreys and was killed during the battle of Poelcappelle on the 10th October 1917. A relative is visiting the area in the next few weeks and would like to pay his respects as close to the spot John was killed as is possible. I know that his unit was part of 95th Brigade, 5th Division, but would like to narrow it down if possible, to the area that the East Surreys were operating in that day. I'm aware that it's impossible to pinpoint the place of his death precisely, but i'm sure readers of this forum understand the sentiment. Any help greatly appreciated. Guest Ian Bowbrick Posted 26 March , 2003 Share Posted 26 March , 2003 There is a website dedicated to the East Surreys at: www.geocities.com/Heartland/Park/3288/eastsurr.html This may be of interest. Ian
