Hi

A relative was killed 15th Sep 1916 on the Somme. He was Private Thomas Rossiter 3939 of the 5th btn DLI however sometimes I have seen his battalion as 1/5th (which I believe is a Territorial battalion) I am wondering how and where I can obtain information on when/where he enlisted and how long he had been in France. I believe he was killed in the action when the battalion was attacking the Martin Trench near Martinpuich but I am confused about which battalion he was actually with. Any help would be appreciated

Neil

Hello Neil

People here have been extremely helpful in my similar search so perhaps a look at my post and the replies will give you some info on 1/5 DLI 5th Durham Light Infantry
