MichaelBully Posted 30 October , 2011 Share Posted 30 October , 2011 Excellent work. They will be remembered with honour. Am curious to know what happened in respect of the ' United Kingdom Book of Remembrance, Berks, UK' as cited. Was this discovered quite recently ? Any theories why their names were originally overlooked? Regards, Michael Bully.
brimacombe Posted 30 October , 2011 Share Posted 30 October , 2011 Michael - "The United Kingdom Book of Remembrance commemorates United Kingdom casualties of the two World Wars who were not formerly recorded by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. The men and women remembered here are presently commemorated soleley by their database and register entry. The Commission will continue to investigate the grave location details. " Eg. 'My' two 'Holsworthy Boys' will eventually have their entry altered to state where they are actually buried - Holsworthy Churchyard... Terry Denham Posted 30 October , 2011 Author Share Posted 30 October , 2011 Michael All new casualties who died in the UK and are accepted for commemoration are likely to be initially added to the UK Book of Remembrance until their graves have been found or, when already known, they have been inspected and all formalities completed. Previously, these casualties would not have been added to the Debt of Honour until these processes had been completed meaning that their names would not have been commemorated for another six months to two years or even longer. There is also a Book of Remembrance for Australia, South Africa and Canada which now fulfill the same function. It is a simple means to acknowledge their sacrifice much sooner. Most of those above have grave sites known which are now going through the verification and approval stages.
