Cap badge ID please

In amongst a group of Australian soldiers is this bloke -- can anyone identify the cap badge? I believe the photo was taken in Egypt around the time of the Gallipoli campaign.

It looks more like a 2 letter shoulder title being worn as a cap badge. Soldiers sometimes did this if they had 'lost' their cap badge (often having traded it for something useful).

I do agree, it looks very like the RE shoulder title.

'RE' - of course! Trying to work out who 'KZ' was was going nowhere.....
