I have a Royal Scots badge with red backing, which is ok, but did they also wear a tartan backing in addition behind this on the glengarry? If so what tartan would it be?

No Mick, the Royal Scots did not wear a tartan patch on the glengarry, but they did have a black silk rosette behind it. They did, however, wear a tartan patch behind the badge on the khaki Tam-o-Shanter and it was a 75mm square of Hunting Stewart.

Also, the 2nd Batt wore a green backing to their badge in lieu of the red.

The peaked cap with the RS badge is intruiging. Would that have been worn by the Adjutant ?

Yes, it was indeed worn by the Adjutant Lachlan.
