Derek Robertson Posted 19 July , 2004 Share Posted 19 July , 2004 I am hoping that someone can throw light on the death through wounds at a German Military Hospital in France of 2nd Lt.Thomas Alexander Urwin of 35 Squadron. From what I know it seems that his plane crashed behind German lines on the 12th January, 1918 and he succumbed to his injuries 3 days later. Thomas (known more widely as Alex) is now buried at Premont British Cemetery in France. Any help would be appreciated.
Dolphin Posted 19 July , 2004 Share Posted 19 July , 2004 Derek 2Lt T A Urwin was flying Armstrong-Whitworth FK8 B283, with Lt J H Young as his observer, when they were brought down near Nauroy on 12 January 1918. The airmen were on an artillery spotting mission when shot down. A victory was credited to Leutnant Ludwig Hanstein of Jasta 35b; it was the 15th of his eventual 16. Ltn Hanstein was himself killed in combat with a Bristol Fighter of No 11 RFC (C4673: Lts H W Sellars and C C Robson) on 21 March 1918. 2Lt Urwin died of wounds on 15 January and Lt Young died on 17 January. I hope this is useful. Gareth
