corisande Posted 8 October , 2011 Share Posted 8 October , 2011 My understanding was that Irish Regiments did not serve in Ireland after 1916. However I came across the case of an Irish Guardsman, William Kerr (click for more info on him), who died in Dublin in 1921. The military inquest evidence shows that he was "a special escort to the Lord Lieutenant at Vice-Regal Lodge" Does anyone know if this was just a few picked men to act as bodyguard. As far as I know, there was not a battalion of Irish Guards in Dublin at that time
tony paley Posted 25 November , 2011 Share Posted 25 November , 2011 The 2nd Battalion was placed in 'suspended animation in 1919' , whilst the 1st Battalion after a spell on the Rhine , UK , travelled to Istanbul in 1921. Tony P
