Muerrisch Posted 6 October , 2011 Share Posted 6 October , 2011 From what I have read, if a soldier qualified for a service pension for long service AND gained a DCM, his pension was augmented by 6d a day. QUESTION did a second award qualify him for another 6d Please?
squirrel Posted 6 October , 2011 Share Posted 6 October , 2011 First award also carried a gratuity of £20 if the recipient did not retire on a pension.
Muerrisch Posted 7 October , 2011 Author Share Posted 7 October , 2011 thank you: I have had a look at KR and the Pay Warrant ....... unusually [unless I am dimmer than usual] it is not clear on a second tanner for a second gong!
squirrel Posted 7 October , 2011 Share Posted 7 October , 2011 The legendry parsimony of the War Office would perhaps lead one to the conclusion that the payment of a "second tanner" a day on the pension for a bar to a DCM was somewhat less than likely. Frank Richards DCM MM asserted that the MM was only introduced so that they wouldn't have to pay the gratuity that went with the DCM IIRC.
