o j kirby Posted 23 September , 2011 Share Posted 23 September , 2011 Hello, The Lions on Bavarian pickelhaube plates, and on buttons, have lions with two tails. Can anyone tell me if there is a story behind this? I once asked a Bavarian I met in the street one night, but he did not know! Any ideas? Cheers, Owain. trajan Posted 23 September , 2011 Share Posted 23 September , 2011 Why not combine research with pleasure? Oktoberfest is on, and you have an excellent excuse to visit Munich right now! Trajan
michaeldr Posted 23 September , 2011 Share Posted 23 September , 2011 Trajan's advice is worth concidering meanwhile back to the lion's tail It is based on the Lion of the Palatinate which the Bavarian Wittelsbachs ruled from 1214. The tail was not originally two, but rather one tail which was forked http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/f/f9/Wittelsbach_Arms.svg/200px-Wittelsbach_Arms.svg.png
