jonHumphreys Posted 14 September , 2011 Share Posted 14 September , 2011 Hi, My Great Grandfather was injured during ww1 and was treated in a German hospital (who saved his life) and was then a POW, We know nothing about his time as a POW, and have found no information on him sepecifically todate. BUT we do have a small metal tag, we think it may be a cap badge of some type from when he was a POW, but I can find no references etc. Does anyone have any thoughts, recognise or even know what it was? trajan Posted 14 September , 2011 Share Posted 14 September , 2011 Clearly a tag of some kind for attaching to something. Cöln appears to be an alternative spelling of Köln (Cologne) in Nordrhein-Westfalen. Perhaps a prisoner of war camp there? Or a POW Hospital? Trajan EDIT: Oh, and for what it is worth, there was also a Cöln class of light cruiser in the German Imperial Navy.
centurion Posted 14 September , 2011 Share Posted 14 September , 2011 Looks like a label off a wooden box, it would be fixed by a small nail through each hole.
ph0ebus Posted 14 September , 2011 Share Posted 14 September , 2011 Could perhaps be something off the SMS Cöln? Maybe he swapped for it at some point? SMS Cöln (1909) or SMS Cöln (1916) -Daniel
