Does anybody happen to know please if a war history exists for this battalion? I'm specifically interested in the Salonika Campaign.

Thanks

Tom

There is a book on the History of the 9th Battalion DLI which may have information on the 2nd / 9th.

The Gateshead Gurkhas: A History of the 9th Battalion the Durham Light Infantry 1859-1967

Thanks very much for that, I've had a look on Amazon and it's unavailable at present however.

I'm fairly new to the DLI, a bit off my radar as my ancestors are all London based (my G G Father was with the 4th Londons) - imagine my amazement as a lucky turn on Ancestry uncovered a Great Great Uncle who served with the 2/9th! Who knows what encouraged him to enlist that far from home, especially as he was forty and married with a teenage son?

Any info at all gratefully received.

Thanks

It may be worth contacting the DLI Museum as they sell DLI books there.

Do you know when he arrived in Salonika?

Hi Kate,

He was posted to Salonika in November 1916 until June 1918 when he was posted back to the UK to the 5th Reserve.

Thanks

Tom
