I agree with Trajan, Sth Staff's and maybe the R.P is regimental police?.

On closer examination is that R.F = Royal Fusiliers?

I though it might be RF - but I though that regimental marks were always on the lower part of the butt-disc not above the date stamp - not that I know much about rifle butt-disc (or any other!) markings!

Is it a British made SMLE?

A large range of Indian markings may also be possible
